It's not just Anime Conventions you have to consider clashing with as well.  Many of the fans that attend anime conventions are also general sci fi or fantasy fans, gamers etc etc.  This year AyaCon clashed directly with GenCon in Indianapolis and if I;d had the health or finances to attend either I'd have been sorely conflicted.

That's interesting stuff - didn't imagine I could buy my own con for £10200. Although I guess that's a small £25-a-ticket con, rather than a large £45-a-ticket con.

What's a CTE room? Personally I'm hoping for Certified Tantra Educator...

Interesting reading old accounts, but everything costs so much more these days and its not just inflation. You also have to take into account that larger events need much more of everything - just multiplying by three to get an Aya sized event just doesn't work.

Its also interesting to point out that (as Neil said) Aya Revolution 2009 expenditure was actually higher than our income.

On the topic of locations, I thought something like Harrogate International Centre might be a potential one. It was just something that occurred to me when it was mentioned on the local news the other week.
